The 4th Annual Windsor Invitational is Feb 25, 2012. Last parli tournament before state quals. Registration will be on Joy of Tournaments. Hope to see you here!
Registration is open for the Vendlinski Invitational at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, California.
The tournament’s scheduled for Sunday, December 4, which should serve as a fine tune-up for Santa Clara.
This is a parli-only tournament with open and novice divisions. There will be four prelims breaking to a final round.
We certainly hope to see you at O’Dowd.
Does the Pepperdine Invitational know that it is hosting it’s tournament on the day of Parli League #3 for GGSA?
They’re in SoCal, I doubt they care too much about GGSA leagues
Vendlinski Invitational at Bishop O’Dowd
Teams flip for resolution or side:
Flight 1A
1. The government of Japan should make a major concession to the People’s Republic of China.
2. The U.S. Federal Reserve should save Europe.
3. The USFG should allow personal bankruptcy to wipe out student loan debt.
Any indication as to which tournaments will be included for POI rankings this season?
All California invitationals, State quals, and State (and California Cup).
UOP
CSULB
Prospect
Bishop O’Dowd (Points will likely be reduced like how Windsor’s tournament was last year, due to the straight-to-finals thing)
SCU
MLK
Windsor
Stanford
SCU II
Claremont
…and the rest!
When will the rankings be updated?
Since O’Dowd had 15 less teams this year than Windsor did last year, is it worth the same amount of points?
After SCU
3-1 is worth the same regardless of tournament size
Finals are worth more at bigger tournaments
Hey which events count towards POI points? and is there a page with the break down of how a team receives points?
Parliamentary Debate: Analy, UOP, Prospect, SCU, Vendlinski, Yale, and CSULB are all entered, I believe.
There will be a breakdown later, this is just a preview.
As for the formula used to calculate points, the general rule is 4 points for finishing in the top third (usually 4 points for breaking), 2 points for every subsequent elimination win, 1 bonus point for winning the tournament.
From there, it uses a diminishing marginal return formula. (Your best tournament*1.00)+(2nd Best Tourny*.95)+(3rd Best Tourny*0.65)+(4th Best Tourny*.3)+(5th Best Tourny*.1), with all other tournaments being used as tiebreaks only.
You get 2 points for a win, a point for a loss. Extra for winning. You win elims, you get more points.
The College of William and Mary is looking to host a high school parli tournament in March. How can we get a listing on this calendar?
Just give us all the results (prelims and complete elims) from your tournament and we’ll do the rest. If possible, try to get a photograph of the finalists with their awards to post as well.
Feel free to post your invite on POI as well, we’ll give it some free publicity.
Registration for the Windsor Invitational is now open at http://www.joyoftournaments.com/ca/windsor/info.asp.
We are expecting a high-quality of competition again this year! All are invited to attend…hope to see you here.
Are there any debate tournaments in California that offer parliamentary?
Does Bruschke at CSU Fullerton offer Parli?
Fairly certain Bruschke is PF only.
The remaining tournaments should be Stanford, SCU 2, Windsor, Cal Cup, Squals, and State.
And, Benjamin, also Prospect II in early April, around the 8th.
Rumor has it that it’s going to be called the Hays Invitational…
But you didn’t hear it from me.
Incidentally, if we wanted to publicize here, who should I contact?
Posting on here is a good first step.
We will freely publicize any tournament by putting it on the calendar (as soon as the date/invite is finalized, that is). All tournaments will be covered by us as long as we have results.
Though POI is a good medium for this, in addition, I would recommend having your coach email GGSA/CFL coaches in the area, informing them that the tournament is happening.
Yes, we do email coaches.
Thanks for the info, I’ll let you know when the details are worked out.
Warrior Invitational will be April 6-7. Will POI points be granted to breaking teams at Warrior?
Also @ Prospect: can the tournament be on April 8?
Thanks.
^ According to Prospect’s website (http://phsdebate.weebly.com/georgiana-hays-invitational.html), the Prospect Hays Invitational seems to be schedule for the 8th already.
Teams that go 4 – 0 and 3 – 1 at Windsor will receive POI points. The two teams that break to the final round will receive additional points.
@ Thorpe: I meant Warrior, not Windsor.
POI points will be awarded, but by that juncture the Cal Cup field will most likely be in place. The points will have a definite bearing on the final standings.
Any idea of how the elims work at Warrior? Does the bronze-silver-gold system translate to quarters-semis-finals?
