any way to post bentley mb vs bishop o’dowd ad? i know it was recorded…
Gotta say, I have to give props where props are do, and I really think that both Kates (Bishop and Los Gatos) rock as presenters and analytical speakers.
We’ll be posting all of the recordings soon – first we have to figure out which videocameras were used (I think we had 3 people recording, so we have to track all of this down), and then apparently there’s also a limit imposed by Vimeo in how much video we can upload each week, and we’ve already maxed out with the first 5. Slowly but surely we’ll get everything up.
^And yes, agreed on the notion about the Kates – absolutely fantastic speeches from them all around.
Also…”due.”
I have three more prelim videos:
Valencia/Cleveland HL v. Mira Loma AL
Claremont MW v. Saratoga VM
Lynbrook MN v. Logan AM
The others I need to get from other people
Next up:
Mira Loma LM vs. Lynbrook SS
Lynbrook JY vs MVLA SS
Lynbrook JY vs Logan CS
Actually Jason already requested that Campbell Hall’s video gets priority in being uploaded.
I have no idea who uploaded this video and where he/she got our vimeo password or the video itself. Nevertheless, it’s uploaded.
Enjoy.

We’re going to affirm the resolution on principle. Also, we want mounted attack lasers.
I think we assumed it was a time-space case in the 23rd century.
that explains the existence of Czechoslovakia (kinda)

Lynbrook JY vs Logan CS part 2 coming soon
Artem is really bad… same with the other three debaters…
Dude that was my first round in half a year, plus I was hella sick (the hat was to keep my ears warm). Gimme a break.
I’m just giving you a hard time there… you’re at least ten times better than me : ) (I’m not even the real CrimsonChin, just a troll LDer)

further videos will be uploaded about once in 10 days
Tejas’s reactions during Sam’s speech are pretty priceless.
i just watched through all of the cali cup videos. wow.
is it just me, or are some of the speakers ridiculously quick?
annie, niraj, ben, carl and especially vincent kind of gave me a headache. they were tough to flow.
i liked the bishop o’ dowd’s analysis in finals. i thought that carey killed it. i also thought that kate epstein was awesome.
rylan and iain were my favorite speakers, loved their voices, but there analysis could’ve been a lot better. question: is iain british?
and does anybody have tips for flowing when you are the neg?
Some of them can’t help it; they speak quickly naturally. The speed at which Carl is speaking in most of the videos is pretty much the slowest he ever gets.
If you’re having problems with speed, I’d recommend watching some fast LD or Policy rounds, then come back and realize how sane their speeds are, even if they’re bordering the edge of too fast in Parli.
One of the judges voted Ben/Niraj down in the finals because they “spread”, I believe.
Some of them are a little too fast, I definitely agree with you there. But then again, as P-Lin pointed out, this really is quite slow compared to Policy or LD (Not that those are anything close to ideal rates of speaking in a debate, in my opinion).
Iain is not British, just amazing. He and Rylan are some of the most accomplished speakers (Speech/Congress events) in CA.
On Neg flowing: I like to flow a brief bullet point of my response to their argument after they say it.
Flowing in different colors can help. You can use them to differentiate the stock issues in a policy-ish debate, or otherwise help organize yourself.
Don’t be afraid to POI if you miss something they say.
If you are referring to Mr. Rector, he voted on substance, if I recall correctly. Plin should have a recording of the RFDs in finals, so if he uploads it, we can check.
Carl has RSS (rapid speech syndrome), so let’s not make fun of him. Most debaters can variate their speed to adapt to the judge though, that’s normal.
Iain was cloned from the POI dude on the left, so he doesn’t technically have a nationality. He is, in fact, amazing though.
On flowing: first, being able to flow speed is a must, even if you don’t spread yourself. This allows you to handle fast opponents (Carey and Kate in finals are a great example), and also to spend a lot less time flowing in slow rounds and more time thinking about arguments. So Patrick is right, if you can flow a good policy round, you’re in good shape.
Second, yes, no one at CalCup actually spread. Niraj/Ben and Vincent/Aakriti pretty much used their normal lay speed, which they used to win MLK and Stanford respectively (both mostly parent-judged).
Third, flowing becomes a lot easier if you listen to your opponents’ argument and understand it before writing it down. All CalCup rounds are comprehensible, so that shouldn’t be a problem. The mistake many people make is writing down random words just to get something down on paper, they could have used this time to try to understand the argument. Of course, practicing on fast rounds, bullet-pointing, developing a system of abbreviations, asking clarification questions etc (see Ben’s comment) all help.
Fourth, specifically for Opp flowing, you need to divide up responsibilities between the two partners. During PMC, the LO should be flowing and writing down on-case responses, while the MO should be preparing off-case attacks. This may be difficult for novices and teams with bad partner communication, but it’s a must in high speed rounds, and increases your efficiency in slower rounds.
Do you have the California Cup Video between Bentley MB and Bishop O’Dowd?
Thanks!
I don’t personally have the videos, so I’m not sure which ones are left. I am not aware of any lost videos, so if Bentley v BOD was recorded, it’ll be uploaded.
In other news, finals RFD is up, enjoy listening to Smitty ruining everyone’s sunshine.
Thanks, Artem.
Lynbrook JY vs Logan CS was uploaded. This is the last video we had readily available for upload.
The rest of the videos are with Kunal, so they’ll be uploaded whenever he feels like it (read: will take a while).
HI!
I love these Parli videos!
Are there any more vidoes
that I can watch and flow?
Thank you!
There are several CalCup videos left that haven’t been uploaded yet – we’re all waiting on the guy who has them to do something.
Apart from that, I don’t know of any high school parli videos. Our links page (http://www.pointofinformation.org/resources/links/) has a list of college parli video collections though, you might want to check those out, especially the one on Net Benefits.
So I watched all of the videos here. This is what I think . Feel free to disagree.

SCU sems are up
by the way, I think Shiran’s stat that USFG killed 143 million people comes from The Onion
Wow, how did Logan lose in sems? That’s crazy…. They totally creamed Gbay
I didn’t stay for the RFD, but Gary said that “Judges said we had fair claim that you cannot fiat the outcome of the revolution. It was extra topicality and the abuse argument about the value highlighted the that they tried to fiat an outcome which was inherently just and then weighed on justice. Notice I still weighed our 2 contentions off of the value of justice in my rebuttal because I didn’t formally propose a counter value, (although I did say societal net benefits in my first speech as a suggestion).”
I thought the Opp won even before I knew the decision. Gary was pretty explicit that Gov can’t fiat impacts, and absent any work on proving how the Revolution solves for the harms, Logan has zero offense in the end of the round. The only reason this round was even remotely close was because GBay didn’t articulate abuse well enough, but Logan’s plan was so vague that there was just no way for them to win the on-case.
This was such a..Ben Mabie…case, lol
Gary has awesome hand gestures
also, lol @ Ben during the rebuttal.
Yah, I ran a fact check on the 143 million stat….. it was from the Onion.
