Oregon Debate Institute Commences
The parliamentary debate camp, Oregon Debate Institute, began today in Eugene, Oregon.
ODI will be two weeks long and will be split into 1 Novice Lab, 2 Intermediate Labs, and 1 Advanced and College-Prep Lab.
ODI has a relatively detailed scheduled available on their website:
oregondebateinstitute.wordpress.com/schedule
This is a tentative schedule, as ODI is a “tentative democracy” in which the campers get some say in what they want to do if they can get a majority vote.
Everyone will have the same lecture topics, but the lectures will be split into Novice and Advance divisions.
There are 12 staff members running ODI. Staff list coming up soon.

“2 Intermediate Lab, and 1 Advanced and College-Prep Lab.”
Wait so they mixed high school and college debaters in one lab?
Yes. In the Advanced Lab, about half of the 8 members are entering college parli the coming year.
There’s also been talk recently of having voluntary evening lectures where the instructors can talk about issues that can’t be fit into the schedule. So far the ideas thrown around include space (exploration/militarization), prisons, and the brain.
