  • Starving out-of-work college kid here. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, consider picking me up as a hired gun.

About me: I’ll be a junior at UCLA for the upcoming year. My extensive debate experience includes four years of high school policy debate (qualified/competed at CHSSA State, NCFL Nats, NFL Nats) and two years of NPDA parliamentary debate as a Bruin. Last year my partner and I were ranked in the top 20 nationally by the NPTE tournament seeding algorithm. I won two tournaments and multiple speaker awards on top of countless elimination round appearances. I consider myself fairly competent at what I do.

Stylistically, I am proficient in both technical, flow-oriented debate as well as communications/lay debate. I’ve sustained success on both fronts throughout my career and have plenty of unique lessons and tricks of the trade to pass along.

As far as arrangements, I can coach, judge, cut briefs, do online consulting, take your SAT*, tutor you in the ways of nefarious evil – whatever suits your needs. The caveat is that I live in Westwood and don’t have a car. If you require my physical presence at a practice or tournament, you’ll have to pick me up if the location in question is not reasonably accessible via public transit. Other than that, my availability is limited only by my college tournament and class schedule, in that order.

I have references aplenty, and you can hire me on a temporary or season-long basis. Email at nmatthews[dot]ucla[at]gmail.com if interested.

Hi, I’m from Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose, NorCal. So we’re looking for a coach who has experience in general. Our main event is PF, but my partner and I do a little parli. We also have some people do speech. We need a well rounded-coach who can devote a couple of hours a week, but all hours and pay is negotiable.

Other than that, my team might need some external chaperones, judges, and help.

Contact me via FB or add Apoorva Dharmadhikari.

We’re hoping to get a coach by October or as soon as possible.

Bishop O’Dowd High School’s debate team has expanded rapidly and currently searching for an assistant debate coach.

The assistant debate coach is responsible for helping the head debate coach with all aspects of directing, leading, and managing Bishop O’Dowd’s debate program. Primary duties will include training and coaching novice and junior varsity debaters. Additional duties include coordinating research, program administration, travel to state, local, and national tournaments, judging, supervising students, assisting with the management of the Bishop O’Dowd High School-hosted tournament, participating in debate team outreach to both the campus and local community to promote both the image of the debate team and Bishop O’Dowd High School.

Experience coaching high school debate or related high school debate experience is highly desired. The ability to travel to/from local tournaments is required. Must have the patience, willingness, and desire to work with inexperienced debaters. A background in Lincoln-Douglas and/or public forum debate in addition to parliamentary debate is an additional plus.

Please send a letter detailing your interest and qualifications for the position to jthorpe@bishopodowd.org.

  • Notre Dame High School, San Jose is looking for an assistant debate coach for the year. The primary responsibility will be in conducting practice sessions (both practice debates and leading lecture on debate theory, strategy and background to the topics for Public Forum and LD debate). Our program has expanded a lot this year, and while we continue to be primarily a Parli school (we have at present 6 varsity teams and 7 novice/jv teams) we now have several LD and PF debaters and the ideal coach would also be familiar with these forms of debate and be able to help students develop cases, research topics and present effectively.

There might be occasional weekend tournaments, but this position requires no logistical tasks, which are all covered by the Director of Forensics. Extensive (read, you should have AT MINIMUM 3 Years) high school and/or college debating experience required.

Please send a letter of interest and resume to Sarah Botsch-McGuinn, smcguinn@ndsj.org

Looking for some type of debate oriented employment whether it be coaching, judging, etc for either this year or the upcoming 2012-2013 debate year..
