———————————————————-
With the Class of 2010 now safely out of the picture, it’s time to start thinking about what next season will look like, so…
What teams should we watch out for in 2010-2011?
Who’s partnering with whom?
What tournaments will your school be attending?
Who’s your new parli captain?
Will there be any new coaches around?
Discuss, debate, share the news!

Some teams from Lynbrook:
BM – Indranil Bora & Aditya Majumdar
KU – Vikram Kanth & Rohit Unni
LL – Betty Liu & Alice Lin
VY – Karthik Viswanathan & Ruicong Yan
Parli Captains:
Alice, Vikram, and Rohit
Other leadership:
I was a captain 2 years ago, and I’m going to be President this year.
Indranil, Parli captain from last year, is now our Admin of Speech.
Karthik is going to be the Secretary of the team while Ruicong will be the Vice President.
Tournaments wise, we’ll go to the usual ones Lynbrook does, and hopefully I can convince us to go to Yale and maybe some of the SoCal ones…
What about YR? They broke twice and also deserve an appropriate amount of fear from other schools
O/
. For my final prediction, there will be at least one Southern California team in the cal cup finals this year.
Natasha and I are back for another season. We’ll be going to all the regular Socal tournaments (Claremont, CSULB, etc)as well as Stanford and possibly Logan. She’s parli captain and I’m in charge of debate in general. I’ll predict that Pat and Dan will be quite good this year. I’ll also toot our horn and suggest that Natasha and I are a team to watch the coming year
Good point Rohit, I guess I was only thinking about our fully senior teams
Lynbrook YR – Elliot Young & Anjana Rao
Does anyone know if Pepperdine is a good tournament?
Also it would be awesome if a team from Oregon qualified to CaliCup
I will be partnering with Keizra Mecklai in Parliamentary (and Public Forum for Parli-less tournaments).
Mira Loma will hopefully be attending a lot of the big tournaments, however, administrative concerns are currently jeopardizing our school’s ability to attend a lot of tournaments. Hopefully, these issues will be resolved and you’ll see all of us around NorCal.
To clarify Aditya’ post, the usual Lynbrook tourneys are St. Francis, UOP (?), SCU, Logan, Stanford, SCU2, CalCup, and CFL leagues/squals/states.
CalCup at-large applications will be opened up to all, so there might be some Oregon teams in the mix next year.
5 Teams to Watch:
Nielsen (2nd CHSSA Parli)/Wong (3rd CHSSA Congress) of Granite Bay HS
Gardner/Maldi of Carlsbad HS
Musa/Wilkie of Claremont HS
Unni/Kanth of Lynbrook HS
Schaeffer/Shrivastava of MVLA
*updated 9/14*

We think we’ll be attending: all SDIVSL league/quals tournaments, CSULB, Claremont, MLK (possibly), Pepperdine, Stanford, SCU2, Cal Cup (hopefully ;D), and states
Dear Artem,
I disposed of my flows from state in disgust shortly after our third round. Could we eventually update the “past topics” list to include the topics from state since many seem to repeat every year? Also, are there any more cal cup round recordings besides those on the site?
Love, Sam
To anyone wondering, we still have about a dozen CalCup recordings that aren’t uploaded yet.
I’ve got access to secret inside info.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Mabie-Sukumar
Maybe
Becky Vastola will be the captain of the O’Dowd debate team for the 2010 – 2011 season.
^^^^^Old News….No one cares…..
To rephrase due to the removal of my last comment: Jason, O’ Dowd is anything but old news.
LULZ, Simon. Way to rephrase it.
Good for Rebecca. I think that Carey and Kate’s shoes will be pretty damn hard to fill, but I wish her the best.
The four O’Dowd varsity teams that are set (not in stone) for the 9/25 GGSA tournament:
Becky Vastola & Kevin Daley
Audrey Carson & Peter Counts
Will McAneny & Grant Carson
Celina Reynes & Natasha Anderson
Who will be attending the Saint Francis Tournament in Parli?
Lynbrook has 7 teams signed up, but we’ll see how many more we can get in past the “maximum” of 4
According to Aditya, they are:
Majumdar/Bora
Lin/Liu
Vishwanathan/Yan
Rajaram/Conjeevaram
Parthasarathy/Kandalam
Ying/Hwang
Young/Rao
Who’s ML bringing?
ML is bring
Morris/ Mecklai
Leibenhaut/ Nunna
**bringing
OK now Lynbrook is undecided if we’ll be attending at all, versus attending an out of state tournament. Word to come soon
OK we decided not to go to Valley, so we will be going to Saint Francis instead!
3 of our teams are waitlisted, but here are the confirmed ones:
Bora/Majumdar
Lin/Liu
Yan/Viswanathan
Rao/Young
My apologies for leaving out Armando Robles, last year’s Claremont semifinalist and state qualifier. His new partner is Natalie Reyes.
Thanks Artem! I think Armando and Natalie will be a force with which to be reckoned as well as our new team of Easly and Valdez. Our new Parli Captain is Natalie Reyes and Blackhawk Forensics is looking forward to a good year. See you all out on the battlefield!
Jane Davidson and Pate Sanders from Polytechnic returning this year. We’ll see some of you at Alhambra!
update on partners: rebecca vastola (Bishop O’Dowd)will be debating with both Peter Counts and Kevin Daley this year.
How does Windsor stack up? Didn’t Fauss and Jeffrey qualify for state last year and quarterfinal at UOP? Christensen had a 11-1 record and other Jeffrey was state alternate…?
The list above comes from returning top-ranking teams from last season, so, naturally, it doesn’t include some breakout teams from this season, like Aditya/Indranil from Lynbrook and Albert/Wooju from Leland. It also doesn’t include league tournaments, so Jakob’s outstanding league record didn’t factor.
Last season, Windsor’s top 3 teams were
Brenda Nelson & Amy Jeffrey (#29)
Jakob Christensen & Cameron Lane (#37)
Jason Fauss & Jonathan Jeffrey (#39)
Fauss/Jeffrey’s UOP finish makes them tied for 9th this season so far.
What is the points system for invitationals anyway? How many pts for quarterfinal or semis or octos? are there even any points for prelim round record??
Last year’s system was based on what round you advanced to. The general form of a tournament was 4 points for breaking and 2 points for each outround win thereafter (and a bonus point if you win the entire tournament).
Some tournaments would have fewer points awarded because of an easier break (UOP for example, started at 3 points). Some awarded points for a winning prelim record if the break was significantly difficult (Windsor/Analy tournament participants almost always got points for 3-1′s).
We’re changing the system up a little bit this year; the posted rankings are for getting a general idea of who’s whom.
Is it just me or is debate less exciting this year? Without all the big champs
Class of ’10 was just too beastly for its own good xD
