In evaluating applications for an at-large bid to CalCup2012, we will give each team an opportunity to submit a recording (audio or video) of a debate round from a parli tournament they attended. This is optional, but recording a good round will boost your chances. We are posting this notice ahead of time to give you time to record several rounds and pick the best one for submission.
The recording you submit will be kept private unless you explicitly ask us to upload it to POI. And make sure to ask for your opponents’ permission before recording the round. Ideally, record them giving the permission.
If you choose to record a round at your league tournament, be sure to familiarize yourself with your league’s rules – several leagues do not allow recording rounds. Invitationals typically don’t have such rules.

Erase the rankings, the California Cup, the sense of community, the debates about the debates.

Of course parli would still have existed, but it would have been a hollow simulacra of what Artem was able to engineer.

Artem, you made a huge impact on the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of debaters.

All of us in the high school parli community owe you a debt of gratitude.

Thank you.

Friends,

I am officially resigning my position as the administrator of Point of Information and the director of California Cup.
Please welcome the new head of POI – Jon Thorpe, the coach of Bishop O’Dowd.

I will serve as the website Deng Xiaoping, reserving such functions as setting the POI rankings formula, determining the final list of people who qualify to CalCup, drafting CalCup resolutions, and being the final arbiter in other instances where Mr. Thorpe may have a conflict of interest due to his being a coach. Mr. Thorpe, however, is from now on in charge of the day-to-day functioning of the website.

The past three years of building POI from the ground up have been a blast. To the entire high school parli community – you guys are great. Thank you.

Peace,

Artem Raskin
POI Administrator (04/14/2009 – 12/11/2011)
